What an exciting time to be President of the Greater Chicago Chapter of the ALA!
There are a lot of changes rocking the legal industry. Clients are expecting much more from law firms in many areas beyond merely doing excellent legal work – such as their data security, the diversity of their attorneys and vendors, and the sustainability of their operations. And clients have an increasing focus on price and value in their evaluation of outside law firms. Law firms are at risk of losing business if they are unable to engage in meaningful and informed pricing discussions with clients and demonstrate that they can deliver client service value beyond just the outcome of individual legal matters. And in-house legal departments that are unable to hold their outside law firms accountable in these areas may run afoul of internal corporate objectives.
As legal administrators, we can seize the opportunity to demonstrate our value by helping both law firms and corporate legal departments successfully navigate these and other new challenges. And the Greater Chicago Chapter is committed to providing you with the resources and education you need to excel!
Our outstanding GCC Board is eager to carry on the great work that has been done in recent years to ensure our Chapter meets the quickly evolving needs of legal administrators in the Chicago market. We are committed to providing Chapter Members with relevant and timely educational programming and engaging networking events. And we continue to rely on the generosity of our business partners – their financial support and expertise are key components for our Chapter’s success.
As in past years, the Board emphasizes the importance of getting input and feedback directly from Chapter Members to inform our planning efforts. Please reach out directly to me and any of the members of the GCC Board with your thoughts, ideas and concerns. I look forward to hearing from you.
Mike Motyka, President 2018-2019
