Remembering Steve Wingert
It is with tremendous sadness that we let you know that our dear friend and former GCC colleague Steve Wingert passed away on Monday, March 18th, at his home in Florida after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve was very active in the ALA, and served as President of ALA in 2012-13.
Steve is survived by his spouse Mark Bridgeman (who has also been very active in the GCC, Wisconsin chapter and ALA National), his son Brian and daughters Meghan (husband Ben) and Chenin (husband Sean). Meghan is expecting and Steve was so excited to be having a third grandchild to join grandsons Braden and Jayce.
Steve was a kind, caring and talented person who touched many people, both here in Chicago and across the country. In the spirit of the way that he lived his life, we should honor his memory by taking inspiration to be of service to others and to seize the opportunities we have to enjoy time with our friends and family.
In the words of his daughter Chenin, "Some people bring so much light into the world, that even after they have left, the light still remains. Remember Steve as the man who loved life. He lived it and he relished it. May all of us strive to live like Steve and to live for the moments that you can't put into words."
