It is certainly the time of year to be stressed: the firm's budgeting cycle, the economy, the holidays, and more. And each of these stress points can affect the attorneys and staff - creating even more stress. Join this program to examine the good, bad and ugly sides of stress. Explore techniques for dealing with stress, and identify ones that will work best for you. Remember, stress is a natural part of our lives and only becomes bad or ugly when it exceeds our ability to cope. As a legal administrator, you are always expected to cope. After participating in this program, attendees should be able to:
Identify where stress is coming from and the four responses a person can have to stress
Recognize the signs of when stress is becoming bad or ugly
Apply proven positive techniques, both short-term actions and longer-term life strategy actions, to manage, even alleviate stress

Hosted by Susan Suchy
Wouldn't it be nice to work from home, in your kitchen, with the coffee pot right at hand? The pressure to provide alternate work arrangements for staff and attorneys is strong. But there is much more involved in setting up these arrangements than allowing someone to work from home. Consider some of the legal issues, such as worker's compensation and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requirements, security of firm and client data, and the impact on the firm's finances. In this session, attendees will learn more about the HR, technological and financial impacts of alternate work arrangements for their firms. After attending this session, participants should be able to:
Discuss the legal issues involved for the law firm when employees work from home, including FLSA, worker's compensation, safety, etc.
Construct technology policies that will protect their firms' data and safeguard the confidentiality of client data
Estimate the impact on their firms' finances, such as overtime, tax issues, and office space considerations
This program meets the requirements of 1.5 hours of Human Resources Management (HR) credit towards CLMSM Recertification and the additional hours required for the initial application of Functional Specialists.
